Hearing test under general anesthetic

Hearing test under general anesthetic

There is never a dull moment with Christian so this week he was supposed to have his brain stem hearing test and we got up very early and was at the hospital ready to go when he started coughing so badly and was very chesty. Shortly after the doctor came in and said that she did not think it would be a good idea to put him under a general anesthetic. She thought that his cough and mild sleep apnea could cause him to end up in the ICU very sickly so we agreed to postpone the procedure.

His weekly intravenous infusion was re-booked for Wednesday instead of his regular Tuesday booking but when the procedure was cancelled we decided to ask the ward if they could accommodate him as we were already at the hospital. He even had elma cream on ready for his port to be accessed. They agreed as he did not have a fever and we proceeded with his infusion which we were very grateful to hospital staff for accommodating at such short notice. However, he was not well and was miserable the whole time. I of course got a few kicks and pinches along the way. Nonetheless, he finished without any real problems. Unfortunately he is still not feeling well, breathing heavily and coughing.

This is of course disappointing.  There always seem to an issue each time we have something special planned as a family. For two weeks or more Christian was so excited and almost obsessing about us taking him on a plane to the East Coast.  He literally shows me a picture of a plane nearly everyday and takes to bed my frequent flyer card with him. Now with less than 36 hours before our fight he now has a raging temperature and is not well.  It is Tuesday and less 24 hours before our flight he is sick, vomiting and coughing. I am hoping it is all viral and he will be well enough to go on his holiday to see his grand parents and have fun with his family.
